Bukhoor (Arabic: بخور), or Bakhoor, is the Arabic name given to woodchips / bricks soaked in fragrant oils These scented woodchips/bricks are burned in incense burners to perfume the home and clothing with a rich thick smoke. This is used specifically on special occasions like weddings or on Fridays or generally just to perfume the house. The bukhoor is usually burned in a mabkhara, a traditional incense burner (censer) also known as Bakhoor Burner.

How to burn Bakhoor
1) Take a piece of coal and heat a corner of it with a small flame (lighter/cooker), for about 60 seconds until it becomes red hot. Be very careful not to burn yourself (handle with metal tongs or similar instrument). Do not let hot coal touch skin.
2) Place hot piece of coal in incense burner or a suitable metal dish.
3) Wait for 2 minutes, then sprinkle small amount of Bakhoor Incense onto hot coal.
4) Sit back as the beautiful fragrance fills the room and the whole house.
The bakhoor weaves together an aromatic bouquet of raw materials such as sandalwood, frankincense and mixture of the essence of Oudh, Sandlewood, Amber, Rose etc. Once used the scent around the house is truly heavenly, long lasting and unique.
Caution: Please be careful around children and pets as coal gets extremely hot. Do not leave unattended whilst in use. Dispose of ashes carefully once the coal has completely burnt out and cooled down.
